Membership of the British Association for Immediate Care is frequently, but inaccurately, seen as a portal to becoming an immediate care practitioner with an affiliated scheme.

All affiliated schemes are independent charities that recruit according to their specific requirements. Each has different requirements depending on their memorandum of understanding with their respective NHS Ambulance Trust. In some cases, schemes are multi-disciplinary whereas in other cases they remain doctor only organisations.  Whichever, recruitment focuses on the requirements of the scheme in terms of geographical and team needs within the details of the MOU.

As such, membership of the Association does not imply the right to respond on behalf of a local scheme.

You will need to speak directly with your local scheme regarding responding and volunteering opportunities. A list of all our schemes and their contact details can be found via this link: https://www.basics.org.uk/schemes/
