Committees

BASICS has various working groups and committees made up of individuals who volunteer their skills and time for the benefit of the Association. These committees are listed below together with their members.

The Executive Council is the governing body of BASICS. Its members are elected according to the Constitution and is open to all full individual members. The members of the Executive Council are the legal Trustees of the Charity and usually meet four times a year.

The General Purposes and Finance Committee consists of the Chairman, the Vice Chairmen, the Chief Executive, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer. The members have monthly telephone conferences and communicate with the Chief Executive on an almost daily basis. Many of the day to day matters are dealt with by the GP&F, the more important issues being ratified by the Executive.

BASICS Education Committee is responsible for the formulation, regulation and running of education courses in aspects of Prehospital Care. They usually meet monthly by telephone conference. The current Chairman is Dr Nigel Ruddell.

The BASICS Instructors Faculty provide the training on the BASICS Education courses. The area is used to provide the faculty with access to the current training material and guidance on the training equipment as well as policies on general conduct, examinations, and health and safety etc.

BASICS Education Ltd is a not for profit company run by BASICS primarily to provide a mechanism for the provision of training courses in Prehospital Emergency Care. The Directors receive no remuneration for their work.

BASICS Trading Ltd is a not for profit company run by BASICS primarily to provide a mechanism for the sale of items from the BASICS shop. The Directors receive no remuneration for their work.

The Awards Committee is a small group that includes independent members. They discuss nominations for the BASICS certificate of Commendation, the BASICS Awards, the Laerdal Award and consider placing forwards nominations for national honours, bravery awards etc. The Awards Committee is always pleased to receive nominations for consideration. You can contact the Committee via the Honorary Secretary.

The Conference Organising Committee never stops work. When one Conference draws to a close the group is already considering venues, programmes and speakers for the next event.
