Taking place over two days The Pre-Hospital Care Conference is a must do event for those interested in, as well as those involved, in pre-hospital care. It takes place this year at the Sketchley Grange Hotel & Spa in Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10,3HU

Presented by the British Association for Immediate Care in association with the Military Academic Department of Emergency Medicine, the conference includes workshops, break-out groups and plenary sessions covering a range of topics that will be of interest to anyone interested in or practicing pre-hospital care.  Delegates include those from:

  • Immediate care schemes
  • The military
  • HEMS services
  • NHS and private ambulance services
  • Sports and event medicine
  • Specialist rescue organisations

There will be a trade exhibition, a poster and photographic exhibition & competition, details on how to participate are within the relevant tabs in the column to the left.

We are pleased to be able to provide a quiet space for nursing mums alongside an easy to access/exit reserved seating area in the plenary venue.

If you’ve captured something on film that encompasses any aspect of pre-hospital care then why not enter it into our photographic competition?

The competition is split into two themes and there will be prizes for the best picture in both categories:

  1. HEMS
  2. Non-HEMS

The pictures can encapsulate training, standby and at scene as well as fundraising and PR work. Each picture should be accompanied by a either a business card or similar sized note of the entrants name and if available any title to the picture.

Entry guidelines

  1. A4 size preferred;
  2. Portrait or landscape;
  3. Colour or black and white;
  4. The entrant must be the photographer and be attending the conference.

On registration simply mention that you have an entry for the photographic competition and the staff will assist.

I’m a nursing mum, can I attend?

Absolutely, there are quiet spaces available for feeding and changing and we want you to feel that you can come and enjoy the conference in a relaxed and welcoming way. If you contact us ahead of time at conference@basics.org.uk we’ll arrange for a seat near to an easy and accessible exit to be reserved for you so you can slip in and out as necessary (and we promise you won’t be pushed to the back).

Yes, the hotel has swimming pool and gym facilities available to its guests free of charge. A spa offers a range of treatments by appointment booked from your room or at reception.

I’m planning on attending for the two days, do I have to stay at the Sketchley Grange Hotel and Spa?

No, we appreciate people have different needs and preferences, so please book wherever suits you.

I’m going to enter a poster/photograph, do I have to attend?

In short – yes. We recognise that often posters have multiple authors and ask that at least one author attends both days of the conference.

I’m a member of the British Association for Immediate Care, do I need to prove it to get the discount?

If you sign in to the website using your username and password your status is registered automatically. If you have forgotten your log in details, please contact us as admin@basics.org.uk.

I’m a Faculty (FPHC) member, can I get a discount?

Yes, you are entitled to exactly the same discounted rates as our members. Simply provide your membership number when asked on the registration form and we will confirm your status with the FPHC.

I’m undertaking a post graduate course can I get the student discount?

No. If you already hold registration with the GMC, NMC or the HCPC, the students price is not available to you. If you are on one of the registers but studying for entry to another (i.e. a paramedic studying medicine) then you can claim the student discount.

I’m a BASICS scheme responder but not a member of the British Association for Immediate Care, can I still get the members discount?

No. You must be a member of the Association to qualify for the discount.

Lt Col Jon Barratt – Chair

Jon is a British Army Emergency Medicine Consultant, Senior Lecturer at the Academic department of Emergency Medicine, HEMS doctor and a Director of BASICS. He has many years experience of pre-hospital care through his work with various UK based HEMS systems and as a voluntary immediate care doctor with BASICS’ schemes in his area.

Dr Rebecca Isles

Becky is an Emergency Medicine Consultant in West Yorkshire practicing her pre-hospital medicine across various organisations. Becky has been an active responder for YAS BASICS since 2014 and is now  the chair of Yorkshire BASICS; she has also been a Mountain Rescue team member, instructor and Doctor since 2008 and is now a Senior Doctor with another local BASICS scheme, the West Yorkshire Medic Response Team having joined as a trainee in 2010.

Dr Sarah Milton Jones

Sarah is an Emergency Medicine Consultant in West Yorkshire and practices pre-hospital care as part of YAS BASICS and its sister scheme the West Yorkshire Medic Response Team. She is also a HEMS doctor with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Dr Heather Reynolds

Heather is a anaesthetic trainee based in Yorkshire who practices pre-hospital care with the West Yorkshire Medic Response Team. A member of BASICS faculty, Heather regularly teaches on our courses and is soon to start a year’s rotation as a HEMS PHEM trainee.

Ms Suzannah Hoult

Suzannah is a plastic surgeon with a special interest in hand surgery. The chair of BASICS Gloucestershire she is also a member of our teaching faculty.

Surg Cmdr Paul Rees

Paul is a Royal Navy Consultant Physician in Interventional Cardiology. he has a very varied and ongoing pre-hospital care career that includes voluntary immediate care doctor roles with a variety of BASICS schemes and as a HEMS physician.

Ms Rebecca Hall

Rebecca is a 5th year medical student with a strong interest in pre-hospital care.

Whilst our conference might not be the largest, it is extremely well focused and will bring you face-to-face with key decision makers from our own schemes and other areas of emergency care within the UK.

Our delegates come from a range of areas of practice and many come wearing a number of hats that include:
