BASICS Insights: A Day in the Life of a BASICS Scheme

We are delighted to hear from Theo Weston, founder of the BASICS scheme BEEP DOCTORS, which was awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service in 2023. Come and find out about the work this scheme does, the challenging and opportunities he encounters as a volunteer, and what Theo has learned through his experience in Cumbria.

The workshop will consist of a short talk followed by a time for Q&A so that you can ask Theo any questions you might have.

Want to find out a bit more about Theo?

Dr Theo Weston has been a Doctor since 1982 & did his main training at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in London. Dr Weston qualified as a GP in 1986.

Although Theo Weston was born in Jamaica & lived there for his first three years, his family eventually returned to the UK & settled in North Cumbria. Having studied in London, he did his undergraduate jobs in Canterbury & Hemel Hempstead before doing his GP Training in Northampton. However, he then started looking for a GP Practice in Cumbria as this was where he really wanted to work & he was lucky enough to join a Practice in Penrith in 1992.

Theo always wanted to be a GP, and always had an interest in pre-hospital emergency care. When he joined the Birbeck Medical Group in Penrith, there was already the basics of a volunteer scheme that allowed Doctors to respond to emergencies in the region. Theo was able to take over this scheme and develop it into the BEEP Fund (BEEP Doctors). He also joined the local Mountain Rescue Team in Patterdale and a few years later started working for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

Please note that booking closes at 6.30pm on the evening of the event.
