As we all know things have changed a lot since I posted my last blog. I know most of us, myself included, have been providing care to patients during the opening stages of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is new and unchartered territory for all us, both professionally and within the Association. We are all aware that finding time to respond as volunteers within our schemes and other organisations is difficult, and there is also the absolute need to ensure that you have the right PPE to attend calls. I am sure there will be lessons we can learn in the pre-hospital arena as we go forward and as we emerge on the other side of the pandemic.

The Association has been busy both maintaining it’s routine work, preparing to transition to the restructured Association as well as building office resilience in anticipation of the need to work from home. The staff, with my support, will close the office from Friday 20th March and will transfer to home working so as to continue to provide support to you, the member and to our affiliated schemes. On Sunday we will hold the last formal meeting of the Executive Council of BASICS, unfortunately, by teleconference. This will be to undertake the final legal processes to transfer the assets of the current organisation to that of the new Association. Later on in the day, the Board of Directors of the restructured Association will meet, again by teleconference, to formally accept the assets. The process will then be completed by our solicitors ready for the completion of the process in April.

I know a number of schemes over the next few months will find fundraising difficult due to events being canceled. We are trying to support you by launching an appeal on social media with all funds raised coming to the schemes. Tony and his team in the office will keep the schemes informed of the progress of this appeal.

The final version of the new logo was circulated in the recent newsletter. I was pleased with the comments received. We have listened to your thoughts and amended the logo in light of them. The new logo will be launched in early April and I welcome any further comments that you may have.

Due to the need to close the office, the 2020/21 ID cards for our accredited members have been printed and will be sent out prior to you renewing your membership. The new cards continue to show the present logo due to the time constraints involved in bringing this process forward. Once we return to normal working, replacement cards will be issued showing the new logo.

As you will have seen, we had to cancel our pilot ICC course, due to be held in May, and also June’s pilot PHEC. Both courses will be reconvened in the Autumn subject to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. The conference planning continues, further details will be released shortly.

We will continue to produce our monthly newsletters during this period as well as my monthly blog. I trust that you are able to maintain a good balance between work and time off and that all of you keep well.
