We are delighted to announce that following our AGM on Friday, we have appointed our new Chairman, Mr Tony Kemp MBE.
Tony is a nurse based on the Kent/Sussex border and he has been involved in pre-hospital care both in the UK and internationally for 25 plus years. He teaches pre-hospital care and is a familiar face on the BASICS courses as well as teaching internationally.
A member of SIMCAS in southeast England Tony also provides regular crowd cover at Millwall Football Club, which is also a BASICS Scheme in it’s own right. Tony is an examiner for the DipIMC examination at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
He holds Fellowship of the Academy of Medical Educators and of the Higher Education Academy. He is the Director of Post Qualifying Healthcare Education and a Priniciple Lecturer in medical simulation and advanced healthcare practice at the University of Bedfordshire. He is currently studying for a doctorate in education through KCL.
This is the first time that a BASICS Chairman has not been a doctor. In his inaugural presentation, closing the Annual Conference, he remarked that ALL who treat patients before they reach hospital, whether a first aider, CFR, EMT, nurse, paramedic or doctor, are providing Immediate Medical Care.
