North West Strategic Health Authority

The North West Ambulance Service is the NHS prehospital emergency care provision within the region.

The North West Air Ambulance provides a helicopter ambulance service to the region. The Great North Air Ambulance also provides advanced prehospital emergency care skills to the region, particularly around Cumbria.

There are also a variety of Immediate Care schemes that operate within the area. Whilst remaining financially independent the charities recognized that with the amalgamation of the county ambulance services into the North West Ambulance Service they had to form a Confederation known as BASICS NW to provide a common standard of training and response across the region.
