Work before leisure for EMICS doc
A volunteer emergency doctor from East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme (EMICS) was able to assist injured motorists at the scene of an accident on the A610 near Ambergate, Derbyshire yesterday morning (28th June 2012).
Dr Bob Winter, who is a Consultant in the Intensive Care Unit and anaesthesia at Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham was called to the incident by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) which had occurred when two cars collided head on the A610 at Buckland Hollow, between Ambergate and Ripley. He assessed the level of injuries and gave emergency anaesthesia to one male patient with serious head and chest injuries and arranged for him to be flown by Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) to University Hospital of North Staffordshire. (Dr Winter happened to be in the area on his way to an off duty leisure activity).
Dr Winter then assisted in the extrication of another patient who was transferred to the Regional Trauma Centre at Queens Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham along with 3 other patients with minor injuries. The extricated patient was later under the care of Dr Winter in his role as major trauma consultant at QMC.
