On 28th January at 11.45 pm BEARS were called out by East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust to a fire with reported persons trapped in the building.
Dr John Eaton, Vice Chair of BEARS who lives in Great Chesterford in North Essex was dispatched to the call in Elsenham.
On his arrival he was presented with three patients. With the Ambulance crews on scene he assessed all three patients. Two patients were provided with immediate treatment before being transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow while a third person was unfortunately declared dead on scene by Dr Eaton.
BEARS is a new charity in Essex formed from the merger of North East Essex Doctors Emergency Service (NEEDES) and Mid Essex Doctors Immediate Care scheme (MEDICS). The scheme is called out by The East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust to patients that need an enhanced level of care following serious injury or illness. All the members are volunteer Doctors and Paramedics who have undergone additional training in Immediate Medical Care. Each member is equipped purely through donations at a cost of between £20-25,000.
