BEARing up under demand
BEARS the BASICS scheme in Essex has had a busy week being mobilised by East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust 6 times in six days.
Dr John Eaton, the schemes Vice Chair was mobilised twice in three days following reports of two serious Road Traffic Crashes on the M11. Dr Eaton along with crews of the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust and two air ambulances assessed the patients at both incidents before providing immediate care to stabilise their conditions. All the patients were then either air lifted to hospital or went by road ambulance.
Dr Martin Hargreaves from Colchester was called out twice in one day. He was initially activated to a child with burns in Halstead and then to another child who was potentially very unwell in Colchester. On both occasions Dr Hargreaves provided support to the Ambulance crews on scene before both were transported to hospital.
Dr Ian Gibson was mobilised to a Road Traffic Crash on the A120 at Bradwell on Thursday 16th following reports of a motor cyclist being in collision with a heavy good vehicle. On arrival Dr Gibson gave the patient some pain relief and further assessed them before the patient was transported to hospital by ambulance
Last night, Friday 17th at 2130hours Mr John Horton, a Critical Care Paramedic with BEARS, was mobilised to a Road Traffic Crash in Hutton. On his arrival he found the patient had unfortunately died and had been managed by the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.
