BASICS BEARS at Billericay smash

The BASICS Essex scheme BEARS was called out by East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust at 0200 hrs this morning to a single vehicle road traffic crash with multiple persons trapped in Billericay. Advanced trained Paramedic John Horton was mobilised by the Control room arriving on scene some 18 minutes later.

On his arrival John found a single car on its side with four people trapped inside.

Along with the Ambulance crews on scene and Essex County Fire and Rescue Service they managed the scene and provided stabilising treatment until the most serious patient was released.

On release of this patient John was able to provide a more stable airway by clearing it before inserting an airway adjunct before the patient was transported to hospital with John providing further treatment on route along with the Ambulance crew.

John said, “This was a very serious road crash this morning with a number of patients trapped in the vehicle.  The Ambulance crews, Fire and Rescue Service and BASICS worked as a team to release the patients and provide the best pre hospital care for all the victims”
