BASICS members and the earthquakes

BASICS members have again swung into action with the most recent earthquakes to impact New Zealand and most recently Japan.

Dr John D'Arcy of SIMCAS and a Sussex GP is currently in Japan as medical team leader with the UKISAR rescue team alongside Dr Malcolm Russell- Surrey HEMS and BASICS MARS, Dr James Hickman - BASICS South west and Dr Nick Maskery BASICS Hampshire.

Malcolm Russell a GP from Herefordshire had just returned from New Zealand where he had worked alongside othe BASICS members Dr Ian McNeil and Essex based fire-officer Terry Jewel.  Malcolm speaking of the teams work in New Zealand said in his blog " An intense time and a spectrum of emotions felt at different times and in different places.  Overall, I came away feeling very positive that we had been able to support our Kiwi friends and contribute something positive towards the long and hard path of recovery that lies ahead".

 

John D'Arcy deployed last year to Haiti in response to the earthquake there.
