BASICS at Bideford RTC
Two young men were involved in a road accident in central Bideford tonight, needing to be released from their overturned vehicle. Concerns for a serious head injury resulted in one of them needing sedation and ventilation in order to transfer him to the North Devon District Hospital where he remains in intensive care overnight. Ambulance control had requested the presence of a BASICS doctor following reports of the accident from police which proved essential support for the paramedic on scene while further backup was awaited. It is unusual to get such serious accidents within the town where traffic speeds are less. The North Devon based immediate care scheme "TACTICS" now covers most of North, Mid and East Devon with new volunteers becoming available. The need for equipment for new members will mean that fund raising will soon become a priority for this small voluntary group.
