27/10/2011 RTC A52

A section of the A52 near Donington in Lincolnshire was closed last night (Thursday 27th October) following a head on, two car collision.  Three ladies, returning from their weekly bingo session, were trapped in their vehicle as was the driver of the other car.  A passing LIVES nurse, Charles Emberton, along with an off duty member of Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service stopped at the incident and immediately began dealing with the casualties.  Four crews and an officer from East Midlands Ambulance Service along with a LIVES doctor and nurse team from Grantham were mobilised to the scene.  With the assistance of Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Service all four casualties were extricated from their cars and transferred to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston.  All had serious or potentially life threatening injuries.  The close liaison between all the emergency services present meant that the casualties were rescued quickly and safely and given optimal care both on scene and in transit to hospital.
