Pedestrian hit by train in Sussex
A 56 year old pedestrian was hit by the Ashford to Hastings train at 0857hrs. on Thursday 6th.May on the West side of Rye at a pedestrian crossing which has no barriers. This crossing is to the West of the B2089 road level crossing which has barriers operated by a signalman.
Local GP and Simcas doctor Ben Chishick, the first medical responder on scene, worked together with an off-duty South East Coast Ambulance Paramedic from Rye who had responded to the incident shortly after, to resuscitate the severely injured patient. A South East Coast Ambulance crew and a medical team from the Surrey HEMS helicopter treated the patient who was transferred by air to Kings College Hospital in London.
Dr.Chishick said “The patient had sustained massive injuries and the excellent teamwork of the Paramedics on the ground and the Medical Team from Surrey HEMS ensured that she received the highest possible level of care”
British Transport Police investigators were at the scene. The rail-line was closed for 2 hours.
