26.08.2010 Multiple-Vehicle Crash on the M5 in Devon
BASICS Doctors from SAVES (Somerset) and BASICS Cornwall join forces to attend Multi-vehicle Collision on M5 in Devon:
A multiple vehicle road traffic collision occurred on the northbound M5, south of Cullompton, just before 9pm on the evening of Thursday 26 August.
A BASICS Cornwall doctor, recently moved to South Devon, attended the scene to support the ambulance crews, joined shortly afterwards by a doctor who had responded down the motorway from Somerset’s BASICS scheme, SAVES. (http://www.saves.org.uk)
Several casualties were seriously injured and the doctors worked together to help treat a critically injured car occupant, who was then transferred by Police helicopter to Plymouth’s Derriford Hospital accompanied by the BASICS Cornwall doctor.
Fire and rescue teams ambulance crews worked together to free remaining casualties, with medical support from the BASICS doctors. Casualties were transferred to The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and Musgrove Park Hospital Taunton.
