Five crashes of Friday for BASICS Cornwall
Friday the 19th February has been an extremely busy day for BASICS Cornwall. Our Doctors have attended five serious Road Traffic Collisions through the course of the day.
Dr Simon Scott-Hayward was called at 0530 by south western ambulance service to a collision involving a people carrier and a lorry on the A3075 near Newquay. The lorry had collided with a car and left the road going down an embankment, the lorry driver had a number of injuries and was treated at the scene and then taken to the Royal Cornwall hospital. There was heavy snow in the area at the time. On rout back to Truro we were asked to attend another lorry crash on the A390 near St Austell.
At 0650 Dr Jeremy Mawer was called to an accident near Fraddon where the driver was reported to be trapped. Fortunately the driver escaped with minor injuries,
At 11:16 Dr Mathew Stead a GP from Bodmin was called to 2 vehicle collision at the Helland turnoff on the A30 east of Bodmin. He was first on scene, he ensured that the accident scene was safe and provided first aid to a number of casualties. He was again called at 12:38 to a 3 car and 1 lorry accident 300yds before the Helland turn-off on the A30 close to the scene of the previous accident. There were 6 casualties. A rear seat passenger in one of the cars was heavily entrapped, Emergency management of the patients airway was undertaken at the scene enabling the patient to be extricated from the vehicle and flown to Derriford hospital. Another patient with suspected spinal injuries was airlifted to hospital and four other patients were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Earlier in the week BASICS Cornwall had attended a serious collision on the A39 near Truro.
