12.10.10 Explosion at Burscough Industrial Estate, Lancashire

At 10.00 am today an explosion occurred at Burscough Industrial Estate, Lancashire which precipitated a fire.  The incident was attended by North West Ambulance HART Team and MedAlert Doctor Alaric Hicks. 

3 casualties had sustained severe burns to face and hands, one casualty was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital and 2 other casualties were transferred by road to Whiston Hospital Burns Unit.

Dr Vic Calland, Senior Clinical Advisor in Ambulance Control said, “Dr Hicks’ presence at scene allowed the use of the level of pain relief these casualties required as well as aided the appropriate referral to specialist units.”
