August 2009 - Tragic Accident near Preston
Two members of the BASICS Education Faculty attended a serious road traffic collision just outside Preston at 20:00hrs on 30.08.09. One car was overturned and the young male driver appeared to have been killed instantly in the crash. The second car contained a slightly older man who had already been disabled from a previous accident.
He was trapped in the vehicle for over an hour as Fire crews struggled to gain access to him. He was given pain relief and anaesthetic drugs by the Paramedics and Doctors on scene.
Equipment funded by the charitable donations to the local Immediate Care scheme helped stabilise his condition as he was transferred to the Royal Preston hospital.
Police investigation has uncovered the bizarre sequence of events behind the fatality. It appears that following a minor collision with another car, Mr Ryan, the driver who died gave chase and overturned his blue Ford Focus on Preston Road some distance away. He appears to have righted the vehicle himself and set off again, only to then collide with the Subaru Imprezza containing the injured 38 year old.
