From The Star
THIS was the scene of devastation on City Road, Sheffield, last night after a head-on collision which left two motorists in hospital.
The crash, involving a grey Nissan Primera and a silver VW Golf, happened just before 6.30pm. Police, firefighters and paramedics sped to the scene and the road was closed. The 55-year-old Primera driver was trapped in her car and firefighters had to cut away the roof of the vehicle and remove the dashboard to get her out.
She suffered severe leg and ankle injuries and was taken to the Northern General Hospital but her injuries were not life threatening. The 33-year-old male Golf driver suffered whiplash and was also taken to the Northern General. A police spokeswoman said: "The 33-year-old male driver of the Golf sustained whiplash and the 55-year-old woman driver of the Primera suffered two broken legs and was detained in the Northern General Hospital. Both drivers are local to Sheffield."
A fire service spokesman said crews from Mansfield Road and Central fire stations were called to the incident. "The collision happened at the junction of Spring Lane. The Primera driver was trapped in her vehicle and had to be given medication at the scene. It took our crews around an hour to extract her from the car," he said.
