May 2009 - MAGPAS flight crew at bus smash. One dead and 13 injured
One woman has died and 13 have been injured in a crash between a double decker bus and a car in Cambridgeshire. The accident happened at 1110 BST on the A47 at Thorney near Peterborough and Cambridgeshire police said the road had been closed in both directions. The accident was attended by both East Anglia Air Ambulances with the MAGPAS team travelling in Anglia 2. Firefighters at the scene worked to free three people trapped in the wreckage of the bus. The worst injured was a 71 year old woman who was trapped on the top of the bus with pelvic and leg injuries. She was was taken by air ambulance to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that also one woman died at the scene.
Another woman was taken to Peterborough District Hospital with suspected neck and back injuries and a further six people described as "walking wounded" were also taken to there for treatment.
