April 2009 - Marathon des Sables triumph
Long-time BASICS member John Horton has completed the gruelling 6-day, 151-mile Marathon des Sables run across the Sahara Desert. The Marathon is the world's toughest foot race. John has been preparing for the marathon for over 18-months and has combined his training regime with raising sponsorship for his own costs and for his chosen charities, BASICS and his local scheme MAGPAS with whom he regularly provides emergency cover.
John, a paramedic and independant training consultant, is no stranger to bizarre challenges but normally as part of the medical team providing cover to competitors. A keen recreational runner John has become a familiar site covering extensive distances in his preparation for the marathon.
Congratulations John!
