August 2009 - Man badly burnt at Grantham

Dr Kiki Steel, an Executive member of BASICS and Mr Tim Nuttall, BASICS Education Facilitator, both members of LIVES (Lincolnshire BASICS) attended a casualty with serious burns in Grantham, Lincolnshire at approximately 22:30 on Saturday 15th August.  Initial reports from ambulance control indicated a gas oven explosion but it later transpired the injuries were a result of petrol which had ignited.  The casualty sustained approximately 70% full and partial thickness burns and was initially transferred to Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham and later to the Burns unit at Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham were he remains in a critical condition.

It is as yet unclear whether the injuries were a result of a deliberate act by the casualty or if other persons were involved.
