August 2009 - BASICS Cornwall, Road Traffic Collision A394 Helston 02/08/2009

Just before 2300 BASICS Cornwall, a volunteer group of specialist pre-hospital Doctors, received a request from South Western Ambulance Service Trust to attend a serious RTC on the A394 close to Helston.  A doctor from the group attended the scene and worked closely with paramedics and the fire service to free a number of casualties who were trapped in the vehicles.  Two of the casualties had potentially serious injuries, one of these requiring advanced drug treatment to be administered by the doctor at the scene.  Unfortunately one person was pronounced dead at the scene.  All the other occupants were transported to the Royal Cornwall Hospital for further assessment and treatment
