REGISTERED NURSE - Accreditation Requirements: -

  • NMC Registration and maintain registration.

  • At least 2 years experience within an appropriate acute care speciality within the last 10 years. Where there has been an extended break in service they must provide evidence of at least 6 months recent experience in an acute nursing environment.

  • Evidence of continued professional development in the field of pre-hospital care.

  • PHEC certificate or Immediate Care Course (provider or instructor) or Diploma in Immediate Medical Care.

  • Recommendation from local Immediate Care Scheme or equivalent.

  • Indemnity insurance is provided for.

  • Individual BASICS membership.

  • Provide a passport sized photo endorsed by an Accredited BASICS Doctor.

Each individual Nurse member undertakes :

  • To act at all times in accordance with the General Nursing and Midwifery Code of Professional Conduct.

  • To follow appropriate guidance and rules of GNMC and keep updated with practice developments by embracing PREPP.

  • To recognise and adhere to the requirements of the local Immediate Care Scheme or equivalent.

  • To maintain accurate clinical records that will be part of the patient’s permanent medical record

  • To keep a log book of activity to ensure that clinical activity is audited and skills updated as necessary.

  • To maintain an appropriate professional mentoring structure with an accredited member of BASICS.

  • To be actively involved in and committed to a programme of continuing pre-hospital education recommended by a suitable body.

  • To be responsible to a named accredited BASICS member.

  • To adhere to all scheme policies procedures and guidelines for practice.

  • To perform only those actions and/or procedures in which they are trained and competent to perform in the circumstances as promoted through the principles of Scope of Professional Practice.

  • Only to administer drugs that have been approved under patient group directives to be administered in the pre-hospital setting and to be fully conversant with these protocols.

  • To be conversant with the concepts of communication, command and control at the scene of incidents.

  • To be competent in radio communication skills.

  • To utilise appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with relevant guidelines.

  • To maintain a high standard or driving and preferably to achieve a certified standard such as IAM or RoSPA or to undertake other advanced driver courses, if their work in immediate care requires them to drive to incidents.
