Prehospital Care throughout the World
BASICS has helped set up pre-hospital care schemes in various countries throughout the world, and has affiliations with many others.
When the Birmingham Rotary Club proposed the "Saving Lives" initiative in Goa, BASICS was happy to co-operate. In conjunction with nurses from Birminghams Accident Departments, and Col. Tim Hodgetts from the British Army three simultaneous courses were run. The first was to train the local Police in First Aid, the second was to teach local doctors how to provide pre-hospital emergency care, and the third was to teach disaster management to the local politicians and senior officials
Following two PHEC courses run on the island the local doctors now have an efficient Immediate Medical Care scheme that rivals anything that can be found in Europe.
