Paediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals
This is a two day course originating from and validated by, the American Academy of Paediatricians which has been adapted for UK clinicians and uses lectures consisting of information slides with scenario based slides (including real patient video clips) to promote group interaction as well as a variety of skill stations which follow a familiar format.
The main thrust of the course is patient assessment and introduces what is called the Paediatric Assessment Triangle. A method of assessment ‘from the door’ looking at appearance, work of breathing and circulation to the skin, giving an indication of problems before the ABC assessment is started.
Sessions include; the Paediatric Assessment Triangle, Airway Management, Fluid Replacement Methods, Trauma, Spinal Immobilisation, Respiratory, Cardiovascular and Medical Emergencies and others.
